Great food. Had the bento box and hand roll special. Everything was good from the fried tempura to the salmon sashimi. Was hoping service is better, but they were pretty crowded when I went. I recommend this restaurant.
Did takeout while visiting, but if we lived in the area, husband made the comment that we'd become a regular here as it seems like the staff cared about their customers from brief observation The food was great. Tried momma mia roll which was good (someone who enjoys spice may like it more like my husband). The Monterey roll was very tasty and more to my liking. Did the bento box with teriyaki salmon and he thought the fish was cooked well (and it was a generous portion along with the rice). After trying a bit of fried food during our vacation, having the side salad with the bento box was refreshing (I like the light dressing) and the miso soup was good too. When we're in the area again, we'd definitely return
3.5 stars, rounding up. Been coming here for years when we're in Monterey. Fish is fresh, but they can run out. Boo. Yay, they are good enough that they can run out. Service is friendly, but scattered. Get the daily specials.
I am very fond of Crystal Fish anytime I visit Monterey. Every time I bring someone, they always agree on how amazing the food is. 5/5 all around for quality, authenticity and prices. Great sushi, sashimi - fresh fish, service, lunch specials and vegetarian options remain the same as it did a decade ago. Their sriracha and kewpie spicy mayo is the best. Sriracha has the spice level like before the covid shortage. I dk how that is possible, lol. They've been consistent over a decade that I've visited. I'll continue to have a dear spot in my heart for Crystal Fish forever.
We planned on dining in but our toddler was not having it so we grabbed a to go order and headed back to our hotel around the block. We tried a few rolls and a dinner combo with teriyaki chicken and sesame chicken. Portions were generous and food was so fresh. I cannot stress enough how fresh the fish was and how generous the portions were. Worth the stop. If you're in the area for sure
As we were passing through Monterey I told the Mrs. to find a sushi spot that she was interested in and we landed at Crystal Fish. We soon realized that we had been here once before a couple years back when I recognized the "Japanese KFC" on the appetizer menu. Food portions and taste/quality are more than respectable here. It is a bit on the pricier side but I think that comes with the location more than anything. Service was friendly and quick, we got our appetizer and food very fast and we were in and out of here within an hour. We got the Japanese KFC, combination plate (sesame chicken & ton katsu), and a couple sushi rolls. We both left feeling full and pleased with the experience. The sesame chicken is a hit it isn't drenched in sauce but rather a bit of a glaze which is nicely paired with the light/crispy breading. Also the Japanese KFC appetizer is a must, it's one of the better karaage's I've had. Side note: we got the unfiltered sake the last time we came here and it was a really good sidekick to the meal!
This place was great!! Such a lovely dining experience, they had all my faves!! A few things... -they have Shiso leaf here! It's one of my favorite additions to sushi and most places don't have it. It adds such an amazing hint of flavor! Thank you for having this! -they have UME here! Most people might not like it but it's a Japanese sour pickled plum and I love the flavor! I got the Ume roll with brown rice and it reminded me of my childhood! - the house salad having broccoli in it!! So clutch! Loved that because you feel like you actually get some substance in a salad! - fish seemed fresh and I was very happy with the green salmon roll also with shiso in it! My ideal rolls and minus the salmon, vegan!
Crystal Fish has phenomenal sushi! My husband and I over ate because we couldn't stop. We ordered 5 rolls between the two of us, which is nuts but it's because the rolls were just SO good. firecracker: (4/5) surprisingly this was the least favorite, although I thought it would be the best. I think the Tempura was too much, but it's basically a fancy spicy tuna roll Sexy: (5/5) has crab and unagi and was our favorite roll. So much so, that we ordered it again! Firecracker: (5/5) This was the first time we had tried a roll where the salmon was slightly baked/charred. It gave a uniquely Smokey flavor that we enjoyed Lovers Point (5/5) this was a special, although I do hope it becomes permanent. Another salmon roll that was slightly charred and tasted amazing. But by this time I was stuffed and only had one piece Service was quick and the ambience is cozy. We got lucky and found parking on the street
Crystal fish in Monterey was great. We got here when they were almost closing and they still took us in with a smile and didn't rush us at all. Super nice service in a clean restaurant. The best part of this meal was the edamame. It was so delicious and flavorful. The sauce was amazing. Highly recommend it. Best edamame I've ever tasted. We also got the uni, shrimp, and salmon sashimi. They were all okay. The rolls were a bit better than the sashimi. All of it was pretty good though. Crystal fish also has beers on the menu, which we really needed after this long day. If you're in the area looking for an easy dinner, look no further.
